Women's Soccer Falls in ASC Championship

ABILENE - The University of Texas at Tyler women's soccer team suffered a 4-1 loss to Hardin-Simmons in the championship match of the 2010 American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Tournament at the HSU Soccer Complex on Sunday.

UT Tyler's only goal came at 27:58 in the first half when Leah Solomon scored on a corner kick from Analiz Medina.

Hardin-Simmons (19-0) had already scored twice by that time, on goals by Erin Low and tournament MVP Katie Kuykendall.

Katie Kuykendall finished off another goal at the 33:37 mark to make it 3-1 Cowgirls. It stayed that way until Amy Kuykendall was tackled in the box as she ran by her defender. She converted the penalty kick for her 26th goal of the season to make it 4-1 at 87:07.

The Cowgirls, the nation's No. 2-ranked team, have given up only three goals on the year and just two in live play, but both have come against UT Tyler.

Patriots Kristen Chockley, Kendall Kramer, and Medina were named to the All Tournament team.

Hardin-Simmons figures to be one of the top seeds in the NCAA Tournament when the pairings are announced on Monday. UT Tyler ends its season with a 15-4 mark.
