Henrie, Sanborn Earn UT Tyler Athlete of the Week Honors

After going helping their teams go a combined 4-0 last weekend, women’s soccer player Lindsey Henrie and men’s soccer player Daniel Sanborn have been named the Azalea Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Clinic Athletes of the Week at The University of Texas at Tyler.

In goal for the Patriots women, Henrie picked-up her first shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over Mississippi College in American Southwest Conference action Saturday. The sophomore from McKinney, Texas (McKinney HS), also earned her first win as a goalie as UT Tyler beat Louisiana College, 3-1, the previous day.

“Lindsey is one our top forwards but decided to step into the goal to replace injured goalkeeper Adriane Howell,” said UT Tyler head women’s soccer coach Jodi Lovell. “She has done a great job and has a wonderful attitude.”

Sanborn, a freshman defender from Houston, Texas (Cypress Creek HS), started in his first ASC game for UT Tyler Friday against Louisiana College and helped anchor the Patriots defense in a shutout win. On Saturday, Sanborn again played a critical defensive role but also made the difference offensively, scoring the game-winning goal against a tough Mississippi College team to help UT Tyler move to 4-1 in the ASC.

“Daniel has gradually stepped up for us this season, culminating in his performance last weekend,” said Kenny Jones, UT Tyler head men’s soccer coach. “I am sure he will continue to meet the challenges as the season continues.”

This weekend the UT Tyler soccer teams will host ASC opponents McMurry University on Friday and Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday. The Patriots volleyball team will be traveling to Austin for the year’s first ASC Crossover Tournament.

Athlete of the Week awards are selected by the UT Tyler coaches and athletics staff and are eligible for athlete of the month and athlete of the year honors.
