UT Tyler Releases Fall 2005 Sports Schedules

The University of Texas at Tyler has announced the athletic schedules for its Fall 2005 sports, including men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country and women’s volleyball.

The UT Tyler men’s soccer team will open its 2005 campaign on Sept. 4, 2005 against Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. Last season, the Patriots finished 13-3 overall and 10-3 (second place) in the American Southwest Conference. The UT Tyler men, entering their fourth season, are under the direction of head coach Kenny Jones. The Patriots will play their home opener on Sept. 10 against Texas Wesleyan at 4 p.m.

The Patriots’ women’s soccer team and new head coach Stefani Webb will begin play on Sept. 3, 2005 in a home game against Richard Stockton (New Jersey) set for 5 p.m. at the new UT Tyler Premier Soccer Field. UT Tyler finished last season with an 8-7 overall record and a sixth place, 8-5 mark in the ASC. The women are also beginning the fourth season of competition.

The UT Tyler volleyball team will also open its 2005 season with a new head coach at the helm. Kristee Turpin will look to build on last year’s 17-15 team (12-6 ASC) when the Patriots open play on Sept. 3 against Southwest Assemblies of God in Waxahachie. The Patriots will host a tri-match with Texas A&M-International and Southern Nazarene in their first home contests of the season on Sept. 10 beginning at 11 a.m. in the Herrington Patriot Center. UT Tyler is beginning its third year of volleyball.

The UT Tyler cross country teams will participate in eight events in 2005, starting with the Southern Arkansas Invitational Meet in Magnolia, Ark. on Sept. 3. Last year, the Patriots experienced their most successful season ever under first-year head coach Bob Hepler. Both squads finished in fourth place at the ASC Meet. The Patriots will host the UT Tyler Invitational on Sept. 10.

Schedules for all sports are located on the UT Tyler athletics web site at www.uttyler.edu/athletics. This year, most home games in men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball will be broadcast live over the Internet on the UT Tyler athletics site.
