TYLER – The UT Tyler women’s soccer team will play its final home game of the regular season at 5 p.m. on Friday against Ozarks in an American Southwest Conference game at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

The Patriots (8-4, 5-4 ASC) are coming off a thrilling 1-0 overtime win over LeTourneau where Bailey Wooten scored the golden goal off an assist from Caitlyn Mortus in the 93rd minute of play. UT Tyler, which ranks No. 16 in the nation with a 0.41 goals against average, earned its seventh shutout of the season with the blanking of the YellowJackets and have now outscored its opponents by a 19-5 margin through 12 games this season. The Patriots have not allowed more than one goal in a game this year, with all four of their losses coming in 1-0 defeats.

UT Tyler senior goalkeeper Emily Hurley has recorded 43 saves and has the seven shutouts on her resume along with two ASC Defensive Player of the Week honors. The defense has been bolstered all season by the strong play of Caroline Williams, Landri Edwards, Alexandria Clowers and Jessica L’Hoste. Hurley currently ranks 17th nationally with a .896 saves percentage.

Mortus leads the Patriots in her senior season with five goals and three assists after sending in the game-winning cross to Wooten last Saturday. A Katy native, Mortus has 16 goals and 10 assists in her UT Tyler career coming into Friday’s game against the Eagles. She had two goals against Rhodes College in the season opener and two against Howard Payne and leads the team with 19 shots on goal.

Kaelyn Steitz is second on the team with four goals this season, including ASC goals against Concordia, McMurry and Sul Ross. Wooten now has six goals in her career and three in her sophomore season after the golden goal to knock off the YellowJackets. She scored goals against Rhodes and Hendrix in the first two games of the season before striking for the game-winner. Wooten and freshman Kaycee West have both scored three goals each, while Willow Herndon, Vanessa Rangel and Kiersten Ehler have one goal each. West is the second leading attacker with 11 shots on goal, while Steitz has eight and Wooten five.

The Patriots own a 94-48 shots on goal advantage over their opponents this season and are 5-3 at home coming into Friday’s game. Ozarks (5-8-1, 1-7-1 ASC) took a 4-0 non-conference loss to Hendrix on Tuesday after dropping a 3-1 decision to East Texas Baptist last Saturday and playing to a 1-1 draw at LeTourneau.

UT Tyler will finish off the regular season next weekend with a road trip to play Belhaven on Thursday, Oct. 26 and Louisiana College on Saturday, Oct. 28. The ASC Championship is scheduled to begin in two weeks with quarterfinal games on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at the top-four seeds before the tournament semifinals and championship being hosted at the top remaining seed.
