TYLER – UT Tyler has outscored its opponents by a 7-0 margin this season entering its American Southwest Conference women’s soccer opener at 5 p.m. on Thursday against UT Dallas at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

The Patriots (3-0-0, 0-0-0 ASC) are regionally ranked fifth in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III West Poll, are coming off a 2-0 win at Southwestern on Sunday in their first road game. UT Tyler opened its season with home victories over Rhodes and Hendrix, while UT Dallas (3-1) is coming off an overtime loss to Williamette after starting its season with wins over Grove City, North Central and Concordia-Chicago.

Caitlyn Mortus is leading the offensive production for the Patriots through three games with three goals and one assist to start her senior season. A Katy native, Mortus had two goals in the opener against Rhodes College before scoring the first goal of the game in Sunday’s win over the Pirates. Mortus now has 14 goals in her UT Tyler career, while Kaelyn Steitz has four career goals after making it 2-0 at Southwestern with her first goal of her junior season. Bailey Wooten has added two goals – one against Rhodes and then the game-winner in the 1-0 victory over Hendrix – and Willow Herndon has one goal to start her sophomore season.

UT Tyler senior goalkeeper Emily Hurley has earned three straight shutouts to begin the season and has recorded seven saves. The Patriot defense has allowed only 18 total shots through 270 minutes of the 2017 season.

UT Tyler is 25-0-3 at home since a 2-1 loss to No. 2-ranked Trinity on Sept. 12, 2014.

The Patriots will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday when they host Howard Payne in their second ASC game of the season. The Yellow Jackets are 1-1-1 on the season going into a Thursday night game at Ozarks. UT Tyler will travel to play at Concordia and Mary Hardin-Baylor after this weekend’s home games.
