TYLER – Bailey Wooten scored in the 55th minute and Emily Hurley made three saves to help lead the UT Tyler women’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over Hendrix College to complete a perfect season-opening weekend at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex for the Patriots.

UT Tyler (2-0) limited the Warriors (0-2) to four shots in each period and no goals a day after opening the season with a 4-0 win over Rhodes College in the opener. The Patriots, who have now started a season with two straight wins six times in program history, have now had 28 straight games at home without a loss and will return to action next Sunday at Southwestern in Georgetown.

“Hendrix is a very organized and hard working, tough team so I was most impressed with our grind,” UT Tyler head coach Stefani Webb said. “We had to battle today and for the first time in a long time we really enjoyed the fight. That’s a new UT Tyler, one that can really put together a tactical game plan and battle. We took a big step today against a really good team.”

A sophomore from Rockwall, Wooten scored the second goal of her season and fifth goal of her career in the 55th minute after Kathleen Johnson advanced the ball up field and gave her a pass on the right side of the goal. Wooten got through the Warrior defense and sent the ball past the goalkeeper into the lower-left corner of the goal. Wooten’s goal highlighted a UT Tyler offensive performance that had 13 total shots and nine on goal.

Johnson added two shots on goal to her assist, while freshman Kaycee West had two shots on goal after coming into the game as a reserve. Caitlyn Mortus and Kaelyn Steitz also had two total shots for the Patriots, while Miranda Reyna, Willow Herndon and Kiersten Ehler had one shot.

Hurley, a senior from Sulphur Springs, now has 13 shutouts and 80 saves in her career after earning the pair of shutouts against Rhodes and Hendrix this weekend.

UT Tyler will return home to host UT Dallas on Thursday, Sept. 14 in its American Southwest Conference opener at the Perkins Soccer Complex. The program's best start to a season is 3-0 which was accomplished in 2013 and 2015.
