GEORGETOWN — UT Tyler sophomore Katelyn Hicken shot a final round 77 (+5) at the D3 West Region Invite on Tuesday at Berry Creek Country Club to win her second tournament of the season.

Hicken, a transfer from BYU Idaho, was four shots behind and tied in fifth place coming into the final round of the event before making her charge up the leaderboard. The team’s number one put together a roller coaster of a round that was highlighted by a hole-in-one on the par 3 eighth hole.  Hicken started her round by quadruple-bogeying the sixth hole and proceeded to then birdie the seventh, ace the eighth, and birdie the ninth to get her back to even-par on her round. She led the tournament in number of pars with 19, and par 4 average at 4.40. Her two-day total was 80-77—157, leading to her second straight tournament win and fourth top-5 finish of the year.

UT Tyler senior Stephanie Tutt finished tied in fifth place after shooting a two-day total of 76-91—167. She led the tournament in par 5 average, where she was even-par on the tournament and recorded 18 pars in the 36-hole tournament. Tutt has now finished in the top-10 of three out of the five tournaments the women’s team has played in this Spring.

The women’s team had a two-day total of 338-345—683, leading to a fourth-place finish in Georgetown. The tournament host, Southwestern University, won the tournament with a team total of 670, with Schreiner University finishing in second (678), and Hardin-Simmons in third (682). The other teams competing in the tournament were Mary Hardin-Baylor (683), Concordia (685), Trinity (687) and Texas Lutheran (710).
