PREVIEW: @UTTylerWGolf opens spring season in Victoria

TYLER – The UT Tyler women’s golf team opens its spring season this weekend at the Claud Jacobs Collegiate in Victoria which is a two-day, 36-hole event on Sunday and Monday at The Club at Colony Creek.

UT Tyler comes into the season as the No. 29 ranked team in the country and will look for their fifth consecutive ASC Championship and sixth straight appearance to the NCAA DIII Championships.

Head Coach Grant Spencer spoke of his excitement for the season. “We have high expectations for this season, we are always trying to win that conference championship that will get us into nationals automatically. We are wanting to get the consistency going along with solid play.”

Stephanie Tutt, Taylor Denton, Katelyn Hicken, Amy Cox, and Hannah Washburn will be the players competing for the team’s overall score and Stevie Clewett will be playing as an individual in this tournament. The event includes tournament host, University of Houston-Victoria, UT Dallas, Texas Wesleyan, Schreiner, Ranger College, St. Thomas, Tyler Junior College, Northwestern Oklahoma State, Wayland Baptist, Texas A&M International, Western Texas College and University of the Southwest.

The team’s next tournament will take place in Pottsboro with the team playing in the Texas AUM-Commerce’s Lion Invitational on March 5-6 at the Tanglewood Resort.
