RECAP: @UTTylerWGolf finishes second at Al and Nancy Jones Memorial

TYLER – The UT Tyler women’s golf team finished second overall at the Al and Nancy Jones Memorial with Amy Cox and Stephanie Tutt earning top-10 finishes at the 36-hole event that was completed on Tuesday at The Cascades.

Cox finished sixth overall with a 77-78 – 155 in her first tournament of the season, while Tutt shot a 79-77 – 156 for eighth in UT Tyler’s home event. Katelyn Hicken finished 12th with an 80-78 – 158, while freshman Hannah Washburn was 15th with a 163 and junior Taylor Denton finished with a 168 for 31st. Cox led the tournament with 25 pars and Tutt had 22.


UT Tyler completed the tournament with a 316-315 – 631, while Southwestern won the event with a 309-304 – 613 as a team. Centenary’s Jessica Varner won the individual championship by shooting a 75-72 – 147, including a four-birdie round on Tuesday.

The UT Tyler “B Team” finished sixth overall in the tournament with Macy Williams finishing 13th with an 81-81 – 162, while Julia Guamer carded an 83-82 – 165 for the Patriots. Stevie Clewett (171), Gracie Greer (178) and Sydney Johnson (182) also competed in UT Tyler’s only home tournament of the year.

UT Tyler returns to action in two weeks at the Golfweek Fall Invitational on Oct. 15-17 in Sandestin, Florida before closing out its fall schedule on Oct. 23-24 in Abilene.
