RECAP: @UTTylerWGolf opens season in Florida

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The UT Tyler women’s golf team opened its fall season on Sunday at the DIII National Preview at the Mission Inn Resort & Club’s El Campeon Golf Course.

The Patriots are 14th after the opening 18 holes on the par-73 course going into Monday’s final round with a team total of 348. UT Tyler, which will host the Al and Nancy Jones Memorial next Monday and Tuesday at The Cascades, is coming off a season where it won eight tournaments.

Taylor Denton and Katelyn Hicken led the Patriots on Sunday with rounds of 84 which puts them in 37th overall, while Julia Gaumer shot an 89 in her first collegiate round and is 64th. Hannah Washburn shot 91 and Stephanie Tutt a 92 in their first rounds.

UT Tyler finished the day with six birdies as a team, but struggled with six triple bogeys and 16 double bogeys. New York University leads the tournament after shooting a 298, while Carnegie Mellon is second with a 322 followed by Washington and Lee at 323.
