RECAP: @UTTylerWGolf 7th after 2nd of 4 rounds

HOUSTON – The UT Tyler Patriots are in seventh place midway through the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship after the second round on Wednesday at the Bay Oaks Country Club.

Stephanie Tutt leads the Patriots 78-77 – 155 after two of four rounds in the national tournament. Tutt is currently tied for 20th overall, while Katelyn Hicken shot a 76 on Wednesday and is tied for 25th with a two-round total of 156 for the Patriots. Taylor Denton has a 79-81 – 160 scorecard and is in 41st, Morgan Loth is at 163 with rounds of 76-87 and Amy Cox shot a 78 in her second round and is at 164 entering Thursday’s third round which will begin at noon for the Patriots. 

UT Tyler’s team total is at 313-312 – 625 after the first two rounds, while Rhodes College leads the tournament with a 301-300 – 601 and George Fox and Williams College after tied for second with 606s following two straight rounds of 303 by both teams. Wittenberg University is fourth after shooting a tournament-best 298 on Wednesday and now has a 612 total. Amherst College is fifth with a 313-307 - 620 and New York University is sixth and two shots ahead of the Patriots with a 320-303 – 623.

Christina Herbert leads the tournament with a 74-69 – 143 for Bridgeport College, while first-round leader Phoebe Mattana (Williams) is now second with a 69-75 – 144. Emily Salamy shot a tournament-low 68 on Wednesday and is in third for Rhodes College with a 145. Salamy and the Lynx are the defending tournament champions who lead the tournament with 23 birdies after 36 holes. Tutt, who finished fifth in the tournament last season for the Patriots, had three birdies and nine pars on Wednesday. Tutt and Loth lead the Patriots with five birdies so far in the tournament, while Hicken leads the team with 20 pars.
