RECAP: @UTTylerWGolf comes out firing in Austin

AUSTIN – Morgan Loth and the UT Tyler women’s golf team have sprinted out to a big lead at the Linda Lowery Invitational after shooting a 312 team-total during Monday’s opening round at the Balcones Country Club which has them 19 strokes ahead of second-place Hardin-Simmons and 27 strokes in front of Concordia.

Loth is tied for the tournament lead after shooting a 76 during her opening 18 holes, while Taylor Denton and Katie Hicken are tied for third after rounds of 77. Stephanie Tutt shot an 82 and is currently tied for seventh and Shannon Grinnell is 23rd with a round of 88. Stevie Clewett is playing as an individual and is 14th after an opening round total of 85.

Loth, who won last year’s American Southwest Conference individual championship, opened her spring season with one birdie, 11 pars, five bogeys and one double. She will enter Tuesday’s final round tied with Kelsie Guinn who also had a 76 for Hardin-Simmons. Denton would also have one birdie and carded 10 pars on Monday, while Hicken had birdies on three holes to offset eight bogeys and a double in her opening round that included six pars. Tutt had two birdies in her round.

UT Tyler won three of four tournaments during the fall and will look for its fourth win of the year on Tuesday with a large margin going into the day. HSU is second with its 331, while Concordia is third with a 339 and UT Dallas fourth at 341 in the nine-team tournament being hosted by Concordia.
