Lindsey Take First, Leads Patriots to Al Jones Jr. Title

TYLER -- Laura Lindsey shot a combined 148, including a 69 in the opening round, leading the UT Tyler women's golf team to a first-place finish at the 2014 Al Jones Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament.  Lindsey, Taylor Sloane, Jordan Sloane and Marina Rhodes all recorded top-four scores for the tourney.

Lindsey finished up play with a 79 in the final round, good enough to win the medalist championship by three-strokes over Taylor Sloane (74-77-151) who finished with a combined 151.

Jordan Sloane shot 76-78-154 for the tournament, good enough for third, while Rhodes finished one stroke back with a 155, including a 74 in the final round.

Freshman Stephanie Tutt shot a combined 163, good enough for an 11th-place finish.

UT Tyler (608) finished first, while runner-up Washington and Lee finished with a 651, just five strokes better than UT Tyler's second team.

For that team, Morgan Loth tied for fifth with a 157, while Amy Cox finished 12th overall with a combined 164.

Gabbi McDowell and Danielle Poe placed 16th and 17th, shooting 168 and 171 respectively.

California Lutheran (666) and Concordia (690) rounded out the top-five, while Hardin-Simmons (706), LeTourneau (728), Texas-Dallas (734) and Centenary (744) closed out the field.

Lindsey, Sloane, Sloane and Rhodes were each named to the Al Jones Jr. Memorial All-Tournament team.

UT Tyler will now prepare for the prestigious Golfweek Inviational, October 12-14 in Sandestin, Florida.
