LUFKIN, Texas -- The UT Tyler women's golf team improved on day-two of the American Southwest Conference Championship, but came up short in it's quest for the team title.  The Patriots finished 31-strokes behind eventual champion Mary Hardin-Baylor.

After finishing day one in third place, the Patriots fought back to overtake Schreiner University, beating the Mountaineers by 21 strokes on day two of the tournament.

Danica Weddle led the way for UT Tyler, posting a combined, two-round score of 174, good enough for third-place individually.  Teammate Katie Crawford also played well, finishing in fifth-place after shooting a combined 175.

Sisters Jordan and Taylor Sloane finished with one stroke separating the two, shooting a 174 and 175 respectively.

Team champions UMHB shot a 686 for the tournament, led by individual champion Taylor O'Rear, who fired a combined 161 for the two-day event.

Schreiner University finished in third place, shooting 729, while Concordia finished a stroke behind at 730 as a team.  McMurry University rounded out the top-five in team competition, posting a team score of 798.

The Patriot women will now wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the 2012 NCAA Division II Championships at Zollner Gofl Course in Angola, Indiana, May 8-11.
