Golfers Faring Well at ASC Championships

The UT Tyler men and women are near the top of the leaderboard after the first day of the American Southwest Conference golf tournament.

The men finished the second round in third place at 615 after rounds of 313 and 302 and the women finished the opening round in fourth at 388 on Monday at Comanche Trace. The women played only one round.

Leading the UT Tyler men was David Thompson, who goes into Tuesday's third round tied with Riley Baumann of Mary Hardin-Baylor tied for fourth at 149. Thompson had rounds of 75 and 74.

Mary Hardin-Baylor's Jay Stevens leads at 143 with teammate Dillon Gooch in second at 147 and Hardin-Simmons' Ryan Salinas in third at 148.

Other UT Tyler competitors are Larry McDougal (19th-tie, 82-73-155), Justin Ripoll (19th-tie, 82-73-155); Sean Sciba (23rd, 79-78-157) and Chris Cuello (41st-tie, 82-77-159).

Heather Ferguson of UT Tyler is in 12th at 90 on the women's side. Mary Hardin-Baylor's Holly Glover leads at 73 with Brittany Cary of McMurry, Meredith McArthur of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Palestine High School graduate Amanda Tuskey of Mary Hardin-Baylor tied for second at 83.

Also competing for UT Tyler are Megan Clements (18th, 97) Heather Bailey (21st-tie, 100); Melissa Chancey (24th, 101); and Cynthia Sciba (25th, 102).
