Golf Teams Ready for ASC Title Run

TYLER -- The UT Tyler men's and women's golf teams will be competing in the American Southwest Conference Championship tournament. The men's team will carry their No. 2 national ranking as both the men and women will be in pursuit of their second ASC tourney title.

The men last won in 2010 and the women were crowned in 2009. 

In the last two meets, the men have won both the LeTourneau Classic and the Hal Sutton Invitational. The women posted an overall second place finish at LeTourneau and won the Hal Sutton Invitational. 

The men will be led by senior Jacob Walsh and junior John Dukes. Walsh has competed in seven tournament's this season and has an average score of 74.88 and has one first place finish in the Alamo City Classic in San Antonio.

Dukes also has one third place finish to his name in the competive Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. Dukes has posted an average score of 72.94 in seven tournaments this season. He also finished fifth at the Schreiner Spring Shootout. 

Matt Stephens is also a strong Patriot golfer, as he has helped the Patriots to win both the last two tournaments at LeTourneau and the Hal Sutton Invitational. 

In three spring tournaments, Joey Rippel has finished seventh, eleventh, and fourth, respectively. Rippel will enter the ASC tournament with a strong average score of 74.25. 

The Patriot men have also had a strong showing by freshman Travis Boudoin throughout both the fall and spring seasons. In the spring, Boudoin has posted an average score of 74.19. In the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational, he finished an impressive seventh overall. 

The men won their last tournament in Longview at the LeTourneau Classic. Stephens led the Patriots, winning the overall individual title, shooting a 3-under, while Boudoin finished third. 

On the women's side, Danica Weddle and Taylor Sloane will lead the Patriots into the tournament, coming off their second place finish at the LeTourneau Classic. 

At the Schreiner Women's Shootout, Weddle posted a second place finish and registered third place at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. 

Weddle has an average score of 81, this being her senior season. 

Sloane has recorded an average score of 82.54 and posted seventh place at the Schreiner's Women's Shootout. Sloane also had a top 10 finish in the last tournament, the LeTourneau Classic.

Katie Crawford finished fourth in the LeTourneau Classic, and will head into the ASC's with momentum on her side. 

The ASC Tournament will begin on Monday in Lufkin at the Crown Colony Country Club.
