Hicken earns WGCA All-American Scholar honors

TYLER – UT Tyler sophomore Katelyn Hicken has earned Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar honors for her dedication in the classroom and her performances on the course for the Patriots who won eight of 10 tournaments this season.

A political science major, Hicken is a Frisco native who had five top-10 finishes in her first season at UT Tyler, including finishing seventh at the American Southwest Conference Championship and third at the George Fox Westbrook Invitational and Concordia’s Linda Lowery Invitational. Hicken finished the season with an average score of 79.86 in nine tournaments and was 29th at the NCAA Division III Championship.

Hicken lists being a senator and federal judge as her career aspirations.

The WGCA All-American Scholars were announced on Wednesday with a total of 952 women’s collegiate golfers recognized with this prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics with a minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.
