#UTTylerXC has strong performances in Mississippi

CLINTON, Miss. – The UT Tyler cross country teams were led by senior Holly Nohavitza and freshman Will McIlroy at the Watson Ford Collegiate Invitational on Friday on the Choctaw Trails.


Nohavitza paced the Patriot women by running a 24:56 in the 6K race to finish 13th overall in the Non-Division I results. Rachel Willis would finish 18th overall with a time of 25:07. Willis, a junior from Hallsville, led the Patriots last weekend at the ETBU meet by running a 24:04 in its 6K race for an eighth-place finish, while Nohavitza ran a 24:33 on the Marshall course for 10th. Nohavitza and Willis have paced the Patriots throughout the first five meets of the season.

UT Tyler freshman Tristin Salem would finish 40th in the race with a time of 26:39, followed by Lauren Halliday (26:57), Mari Rodriguez (27:01) and Michaela Heys (27:21) who all had top-50 showings in the 81-runner race.

McIlroy would lead the Patriots by running a 28:07 in the 8K race in Mississippi. The freshman from Weatherford has now led the Patriots in three four races this season and finished 17th overall in the non-Division I race on Friday. Nathans Adams finished second for UT Tyler and 19th overall with a time of 28:10, while Gerardo Viera was 20th in the race with a 28:23 time. UT Tyler senior Miles Zeolrlin was just outside the top-20 at 22 with an 8K run of 28:27 and Marcus Allen was 32nd after running a 29:01 for the Patriots. Shafen Borah (30:07), Parker Cota (30:27) and Andrew Hernandez (30:32) each had top-50 finishes in the 93-runner race.

The Patriot men finished as the top DIII team and fifth in non-DI, while the women were fourth in the non-Division I results. 

Cecelia David won the non-DI women’s race with a 23:38 for West Alabama and Sara Smith was the top DIII runner with a time of 24:01 for Millsaps. Vitor Onyaga, also of DII West Alabama, won the men’s non-DI race with a time of 25:55 on Friday.

UT Tyler will compete in its final regular-season meet next Saturday when it runs at the University of Dallas Invitational.
