UT Tyler sweeps Braveheart Invitational

TYLER – The UT Tyler cross country teams swept the Braveheart Invitational on Friday with Holly Nohavitza leading the women and Will McIlroy topping the Patriot men in their home meet.

McIlroy finished fourth in the men’s race of 90 runners with a run of 16:51 in the 5K race which started and finished on the UT Tyler IM field. Nathan Adams took fifth in the event with a 16:52, while Gerardo Viera as eighth by running a 16:59 for a top-10 finish.

Nohavitza finished second for the second straight week after running a 20:59 which was just behind East Texas Baptist’s Shelby Taylor who won the race with a time of 20:17. Rachel Willis earned third place in the 70-runner race with a run of 21:17 and Stephanie Pierce would secure a top-10 showing with a run of 22:03 for the Patriots. Bethany Cox (22:20) and Lauren Halliday (22:36) would take 10th and 11th, respectively in UT Tyler’s home event.

On the men’s side, Wiley’s Marbeq Edgar won the meet with a time of 16:00 with his teammate Leonard Kiprono taking second and Taber Miyauchi of LeTourneau running a 16:27 to take third just ahead of McIlroy who has now led the Patriots in back-to-back meets to start the season.

UT Tyler will now compete on the road for the remainder of the season, starting next Saturday when the Patriots travel to Memphis, Tennessee to compete at Rhodes College.
