PREVIEW: UT Tyler to host Braveheart Invitational

TYLER – The UT Tyler cross country program will host the Braveheart Invitational on Friday with 175 runners set to compete on a 5K course around the campus trails.

There are 10 schools registered to run at the event hosted by the Patriots who are competing in their second event of the season after they also hosted the King Campbell Spectacular last Friday. This week’s Braveheart Invitational will start with the women’s race at 6:30 p.m. on the UT Tyler intramural field with the men’s race to follow. There will be 95 runners in the men’s race and 80 in the women’s competition with Belhaven, East Texas Baptist, Henderson State, Jacksonville College, Jarvis Christian, LeTourneau, LSU Shreveport, Paul Quinn, Wiley and UT Tyler to be represented. The UT Tyler women have won the event two straight years, while the men have three straight Braveheart titles.

The Patriot men’s cross country team will line up with Nathan Adams, Marcus Allen, Shafen Borah, Quinton Bryson, Parker Cota, Matt Donahue, Daniel Garibay, Matt Godwin, Jordan Grubb, Andrew Hernandez, Logan Houser, Daniel Juren, Conor Linekin, Will McIlroy, Erik Sanchez, Dylan Stegall, Justin Tokuz, Gerardo Viera, Jackson Waschek and Miles Zeolrlin. The women’s team is represented on their home course by Ashleigh Caldwell, Bethany Cox, Rebekah Groth, Lauren Halliday, Michaela Heys, Kelli Kissinger, Lauren Knight, Holly Nohavitza, Stephanie Pierce, Caitlin Pruett, Mari Rodriguez, Tristin Salem, Courtney Smith, Ashley Valentin and Rachel Willis.

Nohavitza led the women’s team last Friday by finishing second in the two-mile Spectacular, while McIlroy led the men with a third-place finish.

The UT Tyler cross country team will compete on the road the rest of the season, starting with a trip to Memphis, Tennessee next Saturday when they run at Rhodes College.
