MEMPHIS – The UT Tyler cross country teams finished 12th on the men’s side and 13th on the women’s at the Rhodes College Invitational on Saturday at Shelby Farms in Memphis.

RESULTS: MEN'S | WOMEN'S

“The men and women both ran well against plenty of DI and DII competition,” UT Tyler coach Bob Hepler said. “The women were led by Holly Nohavitza and Rachel Willis who set personal records on the 5K course. The men were led by Will McIlroy, Gerardo Viera and Nathan Adams who also each had PRs. This week we fielded partial teams and we plan to run full teams in two weeks.”

Nohavitza has led the UT Tyler women in each of the first three races after running a 20.09 for 45th on the 5K course, while Willis would turn in her PR by running a 20:11 for 47th. Lauren Halliday crossed in 21:09 (86th) and Stephanie Pierce (21:21 – 94th) in a race which saw 162 runners take on the Memphis course.

A freshman from Weatherford, McIlroy led the Patriots for the third straight meet by running a 27:49 in the 8K race to finish 59th overall, while senior Gerardo Viera was 61st with a time of 27:52. In 69th was freshman Nathan Adams in a time of 28:07 and Marcus Allen ran a 28:28 for 82nd. The team also saw Shafen Borah (28:40 and Quinton Bryson (28:49) finish in the top-100 of a 156-runner race. It was the first 8K competition for the Patriots after they had run a two-mile race to begin the season and then the Braveheart Invitational last week which was a 5K.

The University of Memphis won the men’s and women’s races, while Rhodes took second on the women’s side and fourth on the men’s for the top Division III showings. The meet also featured Central Arkansas, Harding, Austin Peay and Arkansas State from the Division I ranks.

UT Tyler will return to competition on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the ETBU Invitational in Marshall before going to the Mississippi College Invitational on Friday, Oct. 7 in Jackson, Mississippi.
