Six Patriots Receive Winter Academic Honors

RICHARDSON, Texas – Six University of Texas at Tyler basketball players have received All-Academic honors from the American Southwest Conference.

Seniors Kasey Buggs (Lake Dallas, Texas) and Matt Riccardi (Plano, Texas), junior Alyse Bell (Soldotna, Alaska), and sophomores Erica Aguilar (Plainveiw, Texas), Alyssa Ploof (Plano, Texas), and Becky Taylor (New Caney, Texas) were the six UT Tyler players to receive the honor. To qualify for the honor a student-athlete must be an academic sophomore or older and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

In addition to being on the Academic All-Conference team, Buggs was named to the inaugural ASC Winter Distinguished Scholar-Athlete team. To qualify for the Distinguished Scholar-Athlete team, a student athlete must be an academic sophomore or older, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s games.

In total, 101 ASC student-athletes received Academic All-Conference honors and 23 ASC student-athletes were named to the Distinguished Student-Athlete teams in the winter editions of the two ASC awards.
