AWARD: Johnson earns first ASC POW honor

CO-EAST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Brittany Johnson, Sr., G, UT Tyler
University of Texas at Tyler senior guard Brittany Johnson (Nacogdoches, Texas) scored a career-high 21 points after hitting five three-pointers in a win at Louisiana College after scoring 18 in the win over Belhaven. She averaged 19.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game as the Patriots went 2-0.
University of Texas at Dallas freshman guard Raenett Hughes (College Station, Texas) averaged 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game as she sparked the No. 20 Comets to a 2-0 week to close out the regular season. Hughes had 16 points and seven boards Thursday in UTD’s 72-56 home win over LeTourneau. She then had 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists Saturday afternoon in a 78-68 home in over East Texas Baptist. She was 16-for-25 (64%) from the field over the two games as UTD extended its winning streak to eight games.
WEST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Aubrie Elliott, Jr., F, Mary Hardin-Baylor
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor junior forward Aubrie Elliott (Midland, Texas) averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game over two victories last week. She shot 64 percent (16-of-25) from the field and 63 percent (5-of-8) from three-point range. Elliott had a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds in the win at Sul Ross State and followed with an 18-point performance at Howard Payne. Her play helped the Cru women clinch the ASC West Division title and tie the school Division III era record for single-season wins.

Louisiana College senior guard Kourtney McGhee (Simmesport, La.) averaged 10.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.0 steals in the Wildcats final two games of the season.
Belhaven University senior guard Kelsey Brown (Greenwood, Miss.) led the offensive attack for the Blazers, averaging 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
LeTourneau University sophomore Alexandria Thorne (Flint, Texas) had one her best shooting weeks of the year, serving as a bright spot for the YellowJackets despite LETU going 0-2 to close out the 2017-18 season. She averaged 16.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent (13-of-26) from the field and 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from outside.
East Texas Baptist University sophomore forward Kim Childress (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had a career game against UT Dallas in the only game she played this week. She put in 32 points, shooting 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the floor.
University of the Ozarks freshman guard Kamryn McKinney (Sallisaw, Okla.) averaged 14.0 points and shot 50 percent from the field over two games. McKinney also averaged 5.0 rebounds per game and drilled 3-of-6 from the three-point line.
Concordia University Texas junior guard Mercedes Ellison (Victoria, Texas) averaged 15 points a game for the Tornados as they went 1-1 during the week. Ellison would score 18 and grab seven rebounds in a tough 73-69 loss on Thursday. She would follow it up with a 12-point, four-rebound performance in the team's 60-44 win over Sul Ross State.
Hardin-Simmons University senior guard Danie Mabry (Winnsboro, Texas) helped the Cowgirls receive a berth to the ASC Championship Tournament with 17 points, seven rebounds and three steals on senior day.
Howard Payne University junior guard Valarie Matlock (Azle, Texas) led the Lady Jackets for the week averaging 15.5 points per game and 5.5 rebounds along with grabbing nine steals over two games. Matlock had a near double-double versus Mary Hardin-Baylor with 15 points, nine rebounds and 6 steals.
