JACKSON, Mississippi – UT Tyler senior Alex Kochner recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds to help lead the Patriots to a 74-59 win over Belhaven on Thursday at the Rugg Arena.

The Patriots (16-8, 12-5 ASC) have now won six of their last seven games going into their regular-season finale against Louisiana College on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Pineville, Louisiana. UTT is now 6-6 away from home after the win over the Blazers (3-21) where they shot 42.4 percent from the field and hit 10 3-pointers.

UT Tyler jumped out fast with a 26-16 lead after the first quarter where they shot 56.3 percent from the field, including hitting four 3-pointers. The team took that 10-point lead into halftime and would add to the final score margin with a strong fourth quarter where they would once again knock down four 3-pointers.

Kochner finished the game with three 3-pointers and also had two assists to go along with her scoring and rebounding, while Brittany Johnson drilled a game-best four 3-pointers and also finished with 18 points. Off the bench, Bianca Valderrama continued providing production for the Patriots with 12 points and four rebounds. The junior forward was 5-for-6 from the field in the game and also went 2-for-2 at the free-throw line.

UT Tyler sophomore Carissa Spiker added 12 points and eight rebounds, while also contributing three assists and three steals in 31 minutes of play. Alexus Bertrand led the Patriots with seven assists and also had six points and four rebounds. The Patriots finished the game with 21 team assists and owned a 46-27 rebounding advantage over the Blazers who were limited to 32.2 percent shooting and also had 15 turnovers.

A senior from Clear Lake, Kochner leads the Patriots with 12.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game this season and has recorded three straight double-doubles. Her 14 rebounds matched a career-high which she has recorded four times this season and is also contributing 2.5 assists per game. She was coming off a 16-point, 10-rebound performance against UT Dallas last weekend after having 19 points and 12 rebounds against Ozarks last Monday.

UT Tyler swept the season series against the Blazers for the third straight season and has won three straight road games. The Patriots will go into the final game of the regular season in third place in the ASC East standings but would be the second seed in next week’s tournament out of the division with a win over LC coupled with an East Texas Baptist loss to UT Dallas. The Tigers and Comets meet at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Richardson with the postseason implications only remaining for the Patriots and ETBU. The Comets have already won the ASC East Division and will host the conference tournament next Thursday-Saturday at the UTD Activity Center in Richardson.
