TYLER – Alex Kochner recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds to help lead the UT Tyler women’s basketball team to its fifth straight win with a 76-69 victory over Ozarks in an American Southwest Conference East Division game on Monday at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots (15-7, 11-4 ASC) will now host UT Dallas at 2 p.m. on Saturday in their final home game of the regular season and will honor Kochner, Brittany Johnson, Demi Cumby and Alexus Bertrand before the game.

Johnson added 16 points, six assists and five rebounds in the win over the Eagles, while Carissa Spiker went for 15 points with six of them coming from the free-throw line. Samantha Odom added 14 points and three rebounds and Bianca Valderrama gave the Patriots five double-figure scorers as she scored 10 points and had eight rebounds to lead the reserves.

Against Ozarks (4-18, 2-13), UT Tyler found themselves up only one going to the fourth but would continue the winning streak by owning the fourth. Kochner hit a 3-pointer to give the Patriots a 66-62 lead with four minutes to play followed by a Spiker layup to stretch to eight with three minutes remaining. UT Tyler would cruise the rest of the way to improve to 10-1 on their home court. UT Tyler finished off the third quarter on a 7-0 run which started with a pair of Shadazia Birchette free throws, a three from Spiker and two Samantha Odom free throws to go into the fourth with a 55-54 lead.

UT Tyler finished the game shooting 40.6 percent from the field and with a 20-12 second-chance scoring advantage. The Patriots were 6-for-24 on 3-pointers and 14-for-21 at the free-throw line.

Johnson led the Patriots with 13 points at halftime after hitting three 3-pointers, while Kochner had 11 points, six rebounds and three assists. UT Tyler struggled in the opening 20 minutes by shooting 4-for-15 on 3-pointers and were only 2 of 4 at the free-throw line. Ozarks was just as limited by going 2-for-9 on 3-pointers and shot 35.3 percent.

After hosting UTD on Saturday, the Patriots will finish off the regular season next week with road games at Belhaven in Jackson, Mississippi and then at Louisiana College in the regular-season finale.
