TYLER – The UT Tyler women’s basketball team will begin a four-game home stand with a 5:30 p.m. game against LeTourneau on Thursday before hosting East Texas Baptist on Saturday, Ozarks on Monday and UT Dallas on Saturday, Feb. 10 in American Southwest Conference contests at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots (12-7, 8-4 ASC) are on a two-game winning streak after going on the road and knocking off ETBU and LeTourneau last week and are currently 7-1 on their home court this season. UT Tyler secured a 61-56 win over ETBU last Thursday and then an 82-61 victory at LeTourneau on Saturday in the first meeting of the season between the ASC East Division opponents. The Patriots lead the ASC with an 11.7 scoring margin and 149 total 3-pointers and are second in the league with 72.7 points per game, 41.2 shooting percentage and limiting opponents to 36.1 shooting.

ETBU responded from its loss against the Patriots with a 69-56 win over Ozarks last Saturday, while LeTourneau is 0-12 after its loss to UT Tyler in conference play and is 3-16 overall. The YellowJackets are currently on an eight-game losing streak that dates back to Dec. 30, 2017 with a 70-67 overtime win over Schreiner.

UT Tyler senior Alex Kochner leads the Patriots with 11.0 points and 8.4 rebounds per game and has also contributed 31 steals and is at 2.2 assists per game. She has recorded four double-doubles this season, including grabbing 14 rebounds and scoring 13 points in the win over LeTourneau. She has three 14-rebound games this year after also securing 14 against Cornell and Whitworth. A senior from Clear Lake, Kochner scored a career-high 29 points in the win over Whitworth and has 10 double-digit scoring performances this season. Carissa Spiker, Brittany Johnson and Demi Cumby are each averaging just over 10 points per game, while Samantha Odom, Bianca Valderrama and Alexus Bertrand are at seven per. Spiker comes into this week’s games at 10.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game after dropping 15 points in Longview.

Valderrama scored 14 points against ETBU and LeTourneau and is averaging 7.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game to lead the UT Tyler reserves. Cumby, a senior from Athens, scored 13 points in the win over the Tigers after making three 3-pointers. She scored a career-high 24 points in the first meeting with Ozarks in Arkansas and has 10 double-digit scoring performances. Bertrand, a senior from Mesquite, leads UT Tyler with 3.3 assists per game and is fourth in the ASC with a 1.50 assists-to-turnover ratio. She had a season-high seven assists in wins over Ozarks and Hardin-Simmons and has seven games with five or more assists.


UT Tyler’s four-game home stand against LeTourneau, ETBU, Ozarks and UT Dallas will complete its regular-season home schedule. The team will finish off the regular season with road games at Louisiana College and Belhaven. The ASC East Division champion will host the 2018 ASC Championship tournament from Feb. 22-24.
