TYLER – On a three-game winning streak and the American Southwest Conference leaders in field goal percentage, scoring margin and 3-pointers per game, the UT Tyler women’s basketball team will travel to Richardson to take on UT Dallas at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at the UTD Activity Center in its only game of the week. The matchup is between the past five ASC Champions, with UTT winning the conference title in 2014 and 2016 and UTD winning in 2013, 2015 and 2017.

The Patriots (10-6, 6-3 ASC) have rolled to wins over Sul Ross, Louisiana College and Belhaven in their past three games, while the Comets (12-2, 6-1 ASC) are on an eight-game winning streak and are 8-0 on their home court this season. UTD is coming off a week where it topped East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau on the road. UT Tyler is averaging 74.4 points per game which ranks second in the conference and is tops in the ASC with a 41.8 shooting percentage, 17.3 assists per game, a 12.8 scoring margin advantage, 128 3-pointers made and 8.0 3-pointers per game. The Comets lead the ASC by limiting opponents to 53 points per game and are grabbing 8.1 rebounds more per game.

UT Tyler senior Alex Kochner leads the Patriots with 11.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game this season, while Brittany Johnson is leading the team with 35 3-pointers and is averaging 11.1 points per game. Carissa Spiker is adding 10.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game and Demi Cumby is at 10.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Johnson led the Patriots on Saturday with 17 points in the win over Belhaven, while Cumby had 12 points and five rebounds.

Samantha Odom is adding 8.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, including recording her first career double-double with 13 rebounds and nine points last Thursday in the win over Louisiana College. She scored a career-high 14 points earlier this season against Cornell College and is coming off scoring nine points and grabbing eight rebounds in the win over Belhaven. At point guard, Alexus Bertrand had five assists in both home wins last week and leads the team with 3.9 assists per game and 58 total assists. A senior from Mesquite, she is averaging 7.3 points per game after going for 14 points to go along with her five assists and five rebounds against LC. Adding depth, Bianca Valderrama is averaging 6.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game and Shadazia Birchette is at 4.7 points and 2.6 rebounds per game off the bench. Valderrama had six points in both wins last week after scoring a career-high 12 points in the road win over Sul Ross two weeks ago in Alpine. A junior from Corpus Christi, she matched a season-high with nine rebounds in the win over Belhaven and also had one blocked shot.

UT Tyler and UT Dallas will play their second game against each other on Feb. 10 in the final home game of the season for the Patriots at the Herrington Patriot Center.
