TYLER – The UT Tyler women’s basketball team will open American Southwest Conference play against Ozarks at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Mabee Gymnasium in Clarksville, Arkansas after cruising to a 50-point win over Centenary earlier this week.

The Patriots (2-2, 0-0 ASC) are 45-8 in conference play over the past three seasons, including sweeping the season-series over the Eagles last season. Ozarks comes into its ASC opener with a 1-3 record, including a 60-56 loss to Dallas on Thursday in Irving. UTT earned a 97-47 non-conference win over Centenary on Wednesday in its final tune-up before the start of conference play.

UT Tyler senior Alex Kochner is averaging a double-double this season with 12.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game to lead the Patriots, while Brittany Johnson, Carissa Spiker and Samantha Odom are each in double-figure scoring after four non-conference games. Johnson leads the team with 12 3-pointers and is averaging 11.5 points per game and Spiker and Odom are each at 10 points per game. Demi Cumby is averaging 8.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game after scoring 16 points and securing five rebounds against the Ladies.

Kochner led the Patriots with a season-high 20 points and also had six rebounds in the win over Centenary. She has led the Patriots in rebounding in three games, including securing 14 rebounds against Cornell College and 12 in the season-opening win over Howard Payne. As a junior in the 2015-16 season, Kochner averaged 10.4 points and led the team with 7.4 rebounds per game.

Shadazia Birchette is adding 7.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in her first season with the Patriots, while Alexus Bertrand is averaging 3.5 assists and 5.8 points per game. Birchette led the Patriots with 13 points against Trinity. As a team, UT Tyler is averaging 76.5 points per game and is shooting 44.0 percent from the field. The Patriots hit 13 3-pointers in the win over Centenary and are shooting 41.9 percent from beyond the arc for the season.

UT Tyler returns to action with a road trip to play at Hardin-Simmons and McMurry next week in Abilene before hosting Mary Hardin-Baylor at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Herrington Patriot Center.
