ASC CHAMPIONSHIP: Bracket | History | Records

The UT Tyler Patriots will look to win their third overall and second straight American Southwest Conference Women's Basketball Championship this week at the Brownwood Coliseum in Brownwood. The Patriots have won 11 of 13 games coming into the tournament and will open against Concordia at 5 p.m. on Thursday in the quarterfinals. 

Howard Payne won the West Division title and earned the right to host the tournament. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Thursday, February 23 and the semifinals will be played Friday, February 24. Game five will tip at 5:00 p.m. and game six is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time. The championship game will begin at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25.

Mary Hardin-Baylor and LeTourneau will tip-off the tournament in game one at 12:00 p.m. Mary Hardin-Baylor(17-8) is the No. 2 seed in the West Division and makes its fifth consecutive tournament appearance and 13th overall. LeTourneau (13-12) enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed in East Division. The Yellowjackets make their fourth tournament appearance and won their first game in the ASC tournament last season.

UT Dallas and Sul Ross State will tip in game two at 2:30 p.m. UT Dallas (22-3) enters the tournament as the East Division champion, claiming its second division title and first since 2009. UTD makes its 11th consecutive tournament appearance and has won two ASC championships, most recently in 2015. Sul Ross State (10-15) is the No. 4 seed in the West Division and will compete its first tournament in team history. The Lobos improved their conference win total by six games, more than doubled their overall wins from last season and ended the year with a win over West Division champion Howard Payne.

UT Tyler and Concordia Texas will meet in game three at 5:00 p.m. UT Tyler (19-6) is the No. 2 seed in the East Division and makes its fifth straight tournament appearance and seventh overall. The Patriots are the defending ASC champion and have won two of the last three conference crowns and finished as the runner-up in 2015. Concordia Texas (16-9) claimed the No. 3 seed in the West Division. The Tornados make their sixth consecutive tournament appearance and seventh overall.

Howard Payne and Louisiana College will meet in the final game of the first day in game four at 7:30 p.m. Howard Payne (15-10) claimed its sixth West Division title and leads the ASC with the most tournament appearances (15) and wins (22). The Lady Jackets' 14 consecutive tournament appearances in the longest active streak and rank second with five ASC crowns, winning their most recent title in 2011. Louisiana College (8-15) is the No. 4 seed in the East Division. After a one-year absence, the Wildcats return to make their 10th conference tournament appearance after snapping a streak of eight consecutive trips to the ASC postseason event.

The 2017 ASC Championship Tournament is the 19th women's basketball postseason tournament dating back to 1999. The winner of the tournament is the ASC champion and earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.
