TYLER -- The No. 25 ranked UT Tyler women's basketball team clinched the 2014 American Southwest Conference regular season title on Saturday, defeating Mary Hardin-Baylor 78-53. Second-Place Texas-Dallas fell to LeTourneau, giving the Patriots the outright title.
UT Tyler (20-3, 18-2) opened the game on a an impressive 28-9 run, capped off by a Taylor Murphy layup at the 8:16 mark of the first half.
The Patriots continued to make shots, while holding Mary Hardin-Baylor (15-8, 15-5) to just 21 points in the first 20 minutes, taking a 40-21 lead at the half.
In the second, UT Tyler continued it's dominance, going up by as many as 31 points, hitting 54-percent of its shots.
Senior She'Cara Humphrey was stellar on Senior Day, scoring a game-high 23 points to go with eight rebounds which also led the team.
Three other Patriots, Danai Woods, Taylor Murphy and Brittany King added 10 points a piece.
The Patriots claim their first ASC regular-season title since the ASC East Division championship in 2007-08, and the first in the new non-divisional format.
With the title, UT Tyler will now host the 2014 ASC Championship tournament, scheduled for February 28 to March 1 in Tyler.
Following the game, UT Tyler honored the four seniors on this year's squad, She'Cara Humphrey, Danai Woods, Taylor Murphy and Breann McMillan.
