TYLER-- Senior Melissa Thomas joined the 1,500 career point club, the only member in school history, and led the Patriots to a 68-54 victory over American Southwest Conference powerhouse UT Dallas on Thursday night. Thomas finsihed the night with 25 points.
The Patriots (12-12, 8-11 ASC) shot a blistering 53-percent from the field for the game, while the Comets (18-6, 14-5 ASC) were held to just 35-percent.
In the first half, UT Tyler went on a 9-0 run during a six minute span to extend it's lead to 23-12 with 4:12 remaining in the first.
The Comets closed the gap to nine points before Patriots junior Olivia Burns hit a three at the end of the half, bringing the score to 32-20.
The Patriots did not relent in the second half, extending their lead to 51-35, the largest lead of the game, with a jumper by sophomore She'Cara Humphrey with 12:00 minutes remaining in the game.
UT Dallas failed to get any closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
Ally Allen added 11 points and nine boards for the Patriots, while Humphrey added nine points and eight rebounds.
The Comets had four players in double-figures, led by Brittany Houston who scored 14.
The post-season scenario looks like this for the Patriots, if LeTourneau defeats UT-Dallas on Saturday, the Yellowjackets are in the playoffs. If UT-Dallas defeats LeTourneau, the winner of the UT Tyler-Ozarks game will get in.
The Patriots take on Ozarks at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Herrington Patriot Center, with a spot for the playoffs on the line.
