Patriot Women Fall To #23 Louisiana Coll., 79-70

TYLER-- The UT Tyler women's basketball team lost a fast-paced game to #23 Louisiana College, 79-70 on Thursday night at the Herrington Patriot Center. In the loss, senior Shamiya Domino ripped down a career-high 21 rebounds.

The Wildcats used 16 different players on the night, dropping the Patriots record to 9-9 overall and 6-8 in American Southwest Conference play.

Louisiana College (15-2, 12-1 ASC) set the tone early, putting full-court pressure on the Patriots throughout the first half.  After the Wildcats took an early 7-2 lead, UT Tyler fought back to tie the game at 9-9 on a three-point play by Ally Allen.

Allen once again brought the Patriots closer to the lead with just five minutes left, making a jumper to bring the score to 20-19.

The Wildcats closed out the last five minutes of the half on a 19-4 run, making the halftime score 39-23.

Domino gathered 10 of her 21 rebounds in the first half, adding five points.

UT Tyler would not go away quietly, fighting back in the second half to cut the Louisiana College lead to 49-45 on a layup by Lindsey Hausmann with 13:05 left in the game.

The four point deficit would be as close as the Patriots would get, unable to overcome the constant pressure applied by the Wildcats.

Domino led the way for the Patriots, scoring 16 points to go along with her 21 rebounds.  Hausmann added 15 points and seven rebounds.

On the night, UT Tyler shot 41-percent to the Wildcat's 34-percent, and also out-rebounded  Louisiana College 48-43.

The Wildcats attempted 42 three-pointers, making eight.

The Patriots women's basketball team will hit the hardwood again on Saturday, taking on Mississippi College at 1 p.m. at the HPC.
