TYLER – The UT Tyler women’s basketball team will return to action against Centenary College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in a non-conference game at the Herrington Patriot Center.
The Patriots (1-2) earned a 91-69 win over the Ladies (0-4) in an exhibition game and then opened the season with an 83-54 victory over Howard Payne on Nov. 17 in the season-opener. UT Tyler is coming off a weekend road trip to San Antonio where it took a 69-65 loss to Cornell College and then a 77-61 defeat to No. 14 Trinity, while Centenary has opened its season with losses to East Texas Baptist, Millsaps and two losses to Hendrix.
Brittany Johnson leads the Patriots through three games by averaging 13.7 points per game, while Alex Kochner is averaging a double-double with 11.3 rebounds and 10 points per game. Kochner had 12 rebounds in the win over HPU before securing 14 rebounds against Cornell. Johnson has hit 11 3-pointers this season, including five against Cornell College in the first half. Samantha Odom is adding 12 points and seven rebounds in her junior season, while Carissa Spiker is leading the reserves with 10 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Demi Cumby led the Patriots with 15 points in the season-opener and is averaging 6.0 points per game, while Shadazia Birchette scored a season-best 13 points against Trinity and is at 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
UT Tyler will open American Southwest Conference play against Ozarks at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Clarksville, Arkansas before travelling to Abilene next week two ASC games against Hardin-Simmons and McMurry. The Patriots will host Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday, Dec. 16 in their next home game.
