In his first season as UT Tyler head coach, Kevin Baker led the Patriots to the most wins in school history (18), while reaching the American Southwest Conference semi-finals for the first time in program-history.  As a result of his success in his first season, Coach Baker was named the ASC East Division Co-Coach of the Year.

Under Baker, the Patriots were the fourth-leading scoring team in the conference, averaging 67.8 points per game.  UT Tyler was also stingy on defense, ranking as the third-stingiest in the ASC, giving up just 58.7 points per game, just 1.9 points off the conference-best.

In 2012-13, Baker coached four All-ASC performers, including Brittany King (2E), She'Cara Humphrey (2E), Teylor Seals (HME) and Danai Woods (HME), with Seals and Woods also being named to the All-Defensive Team, a mark of Coach Baker's emphasis on defense.

From December 1 to December 31, UT Tyler won seven games in-a-row, giving up just  52 points per game and scoring 73 per game during the streak, the second-longest in program history.

Kevin Baker was named the head women’s basketball coach at The University of Texas at Tyler in May of 2012 and begins his first season with the Patriots.

Baker, a native of Lufkin, comes to UT Tyler after serving for five years as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Division II Lone Star Conference power West Texas A&M.

In his five seasons in Canyon, Baker helped lead the Lady Buffs to a 120-36 record and three LSC championships.  The team has been ranked in the top ten nationally for the past five seasons, and has made four trips to the NCAA tournament, including a run to the Elite Eight in 2008-09.

As the recruiting coordinator for the Lady Buffs, Baker signed nine All-Lone Star Conference players and one All-American, including four all-state players in 2011.

Prior to his stint at West Texas A&M, Baker was one of the top high school girls coaches in Texas, posting a career record of 222-101. He is well-known in East Texas, having served as the Girls Athletic Coordinator and head coach at Palestine from 1998-2000, and the head coach at Nacogdoches from 2000-2003. He also served as head coach at Copperas Cove and Commerce as well as the assistant at Hudson and Princeton.

Baker earned two degrees from Stephen F. Austin State, receiving his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in 1994 before continuing to earn his master’s in 1996.
