Former AVCA All-American Mallory Sanders is entering her first season as an assistant coach at UT Tyler following an incredible playing career which included being a four-time American Southwest Conference selection and earning CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

A Mansfield native, Sanders played three seasons for UT Tyler head coach Lyndsay Mashe at East Texas Baptist and graduated in December 2016 with a kinesiology degree from ETBU. Sanders was named an AVCA All-American, AVCA All-Region and the ASC East Division MVP as a junior while playing in Mashe's final season at ETBU. Mashe, who is also assisted by her husband, Kris, led the Patriots to an 18-9 overall record and to the program’s highest ASC Championship seed last season in their first season at UT Tyler.

“I am very eager to begin my coaching career at UT Tyler,” Sanders said. “I believe this school is somewhere were championships can be won. I am looking forward to working with the Mashe’s because they are so dedicated to not only the game but also off the court to their team. I feel that we are going to pair very well. I had the most wonderful experience playing for the Mashe’s, they were always working for the team and constantly pushing the whole team to be our best. The impact that they have on their players is definitely positive and long lasting. They invest in the team and truly care about making their players disciplined and hard working in all aspects of life.”

Sanders finished her ETBU playing career with 1,448 kills and 1,222 digs and was a three-time ASC All-Tournament selection. She started her collegiate career by earning ASC Freshman of the Year in 2013 and completed it by being named a CoSIDA Academic All-American and the ASC Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year after last season.

“Mallory will be able to bring a lot to our team because she has strong volleyball IQ, a passion for the game and is a big believer in the culture we are trying to create,” Mashe said. “Mallory was a very disciplined student-athlete on and off the court during her career and knows that is an important part of success individually and as a team. She is also one of the best leaders we have ever coached and that will definitely translate in to her being a very successful coach. We are thrilled to have Mallory apart of this program.”

Along with her playing experience, Sanders has coached the East Texas Juniors Volleyball Club the past three seasons along with camps in Mansfield, Spring Hill, Hallsville and Beckville.

“I want to become a coach because I have so much passion for the game and for mentoring young women,” Sanders said. “When I was playing I had coaches who believed in me and it made me the player that I was and I want to be that person for someone else. I love that volleyball is such a team sport. A game can’t be won with one or two good players, it requires a team and I love the cohesiveness.”
