TYLER – Five UT Tyler players had double-digit dig performances, Brieanne Brown threw down 12 kills on Senior Night and Reighanna Guzman established a career-high with 44 assists as the Patriots knocked off No. 22-ranked UT Dallas in four sets on Tuesday at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots (18-6, 11-4 ASC) are now one match behind the Comets (18-5, 12-3 ASC) in the ASC East Division standings with one match remaining for both teams in conference play. UT Tyler, which had seven aces in the 25-22, 25-18, 16-25, 25-22 win, finishes ASC action next Tuesday at East Texas Baptist, while UTD hosts LeTourneau next Tuesday in its ASC finale.

“I was most impressed with the overall team effort,” UT Tyler head coach Lyndsay Mashe said. “Everyone contributed. Our defense was unbelievable. I think the key was tough serving to keep them out of system and we had several come up with big kills when we needed them. I am very proud of our effort.”

Guzman had 44 assists which is the 10th most in program history in a single match and also added 12 digs and an ace in the win. Makenna Bartlett led the Patriots with 16 digs from the libero position, while Brianna Bellehumeur had 15 digs, Emily Robison had 12 digs and Kyana Alvarez had a season-best 10 digs. Bellehumeur led the team with 13 kills to go along with her 15 digs, while Brown added six digs to go along with her 12 kills and three blocks.

Kaitlyn Budisalovich led the team with a .375 attacking percentage and finished with 11 kills and two blocks, while Kayla McCoy and Samantha Lee each had eight kills for the Patriots who finished with a .208 team attacking percentage and overcame an 11-5 block advantage by the Comets. Bellehumeur led the Patriots with three aces, while Guzman, Robison, Bartlett and Alvarez added one each.

UT Tyler evened the season series after avenging a sweep back on Sept. 26 in Richardson in the first meeting of the season. The Patriots snapped a six-match losing streak to the Comets with the win and will now have a week off from competition before playing ETBU at 7 p.m. on Oct. 24 in Marshall in their final ASC match before playing three non-conference matches in Shreveport on Oct. 27-28.
