ABILENE – The UT Tyler volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday at the American Southwest Conference Crossover in Abilene with a sweep of Sul Ross followed by a four-set loss to McMurry end a four-match winning streak. The Patriots (17-5, 10-3 ASC) will conclude the second ASC Crossover of the season with a 3 p.m. match on Saturday against Mary Hardin-Baylor in a contest at Hardin-Simmons University. 

MATCH 1: Brianna Bellehumeur had 11 kills and Brieanne Brown added 10 more as the UT Tyler volleyball team cruised to its 10th American Southwest Conference win of the season with a sweep of Sul Ross in the first of two matches on Friday at the ASC Crossover.

Brown finished the match against the Lobos with a .529 attacking percentage and Bellehumeur hit .375 for the Patriots who finished with a team attacking percentage of .435 in their 13th sweep of the season. Kaitlyn Budisalovich added seven kills with a .500 attack, while Reighanna Guzman led the offense with 21 assists from the setter position. Madison Denning added 10 assists in a near perfect offensive match, while Makenna Bartlett led the defense with 17 digs from the libero position. Kayla McCoy and Haley Nemitz led the Patriot block with four each as UT Tyler owned the net with a 9-0 block advantage. Loren Guerra and Alison Ficarro had two blocks each, while Brown added four to her 10-kill performance.

MATCH 2: Brown led the Patriots with 15 kills and added two blocks, but it wasn’t enough as the War Hawks snapped a four-match winning streak by UT Tyler in a four-set decision (25-14, 15-25, 12-25, 24-26). Budisalovich and Bellehumeur each added eight kills, while Guzman finished with 20 assists and six digs.

The Patriots were limited to a .189 attacking percentage against McMurry after their offensive showcase against the Lobos and were also limited to only three blocks. Brown and McCoy each had two blocks each and Bartlett and Bellehumeur led the team with seven digs each.
