TYLER – After opening the season with four wins in Belton and receiving recognition in the AVCA Division III Coaches Top-25 Poll, the UT Tyler volleyball team is now ready to play on its home court.

The Patriots (4-0) will host the Dakotas Patriot Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Herrington Patriot Center before opening American Southwest Conference play next week at LeTourneau. The event is an eight-team, 16-match showcase with No. 18 UT Dallas, Hardin-Simmons, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Hendrix College, Rhodes College, Texas Lutheran and Birmingham-Southern set to compete against each other in the second weekend of the 2017 season. The Patriots and Hendrix are both receiving votes in the AVCA Poll, while the Comets (2-2) are the top-ranked team and defending American Southwest Conference champion. UT Tyler will open its play with a 3 p.m. match against Birmingham-Southern and a 7 p.m. contest against Hendrix on Friday before playing TLU at noon and Rhodes at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

UT Tyler freshman Brianna Bellehumeur led the Patriots during the first four matches with 43 kills with a .318 attacking percentage. An outside hitter from Frisco, Bellehumeur also added 46 digs with double-doubles in two of four matches. She had a weekend-high 16 kills against Susquehanna after having 21 digs and 12 kills in the five-set season-opener against Hardin-Simmons. She is averaging 2.87 kills per set, while Samantha Lee is leading the team with 19 blocks. A junior from Georgetown, Lee had 10 blocks in the win over the Cowgirls and also has 16 kills.

Makenna Bartlett is leading the Patriots with 47 digs to start off her sophomore season, while Blair Dressendorfer has added 40 kills. Dressendorfer, who transferred from Southwestern Oklahoma, is coming off a 16-kill performance against Susquehanna after nine-kill totals against UMass-Boston and Regis College. Bartlett recorded double-digit dig totals in three matches with a weekend-best 14 against HSU and 13 against UMass-Boston. Haley Nemitz has added 22 kills and eight blocks, while Brieanne Brown has 20 kills and Loren Guerra 18 kills and 10 blocks.

After completing this weekend’s four matches the Patriots will shift attention to conference play where the team will play at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at LeTourneau before playing at Louisiana College on Saturday. UT Tyler’s best start to a season is 6-0 which the team achieved last season before dropping a match against Hendrix at the Austin College Tournament.
