BELTON – The UT Tyler volleyball team is 4-0 on the season after earning a pair of sweeps over Regis College and Susquehanna College on Saturday to complete the season-opening weekend at the Mary Hardin-Baylor Tournament at the Mayborn Campus Center.

The Patriots opened the day with a 25-10, 25-7, 25-9 win over Regis before earning a hard-fought 26-24, 27-25, 25-23 victory against the River Hawks who won the Landmark Conference last season to advance to the NCAA Division III tournament.

"I am most proud of the fight, the heart and the determination," UT Tyler head coach Lyndsay Mashe said. "We improved with every game we played. The comebacks happened because we had several people willing to step up and make big plays when they were needed. It was a total team effort all weekend long. I am incredibly proud of everyone."

Brianna Bellehumeur and Blair Dressendorfer had 16 kills each and Reighanna Guzman delivered 28 assists and had nine digs for the Patriots in the win over Susquehanna. Brieanne Brown added five kills, while Makenna Bartlett and Bellehumeur led the team with 12 digs each.

Dressendorfer led the Patriots with nine kills and Guzman had 14 assists and five digs in the win over Regis. Dressendorfer hit .412 in the match, while Bellehumeur had six kills and six digs for the Patriots who hit .406 in the quick three-set contest. Emily Robison and Makenna Bartlett had eight digs each and Samantha Lee had three blocks for the defense.

UT Tyler, which started 6-0 for the best start in program history last season, will now open its home schedule by hosting the Dakotas Patriot Classic from Sept. 8-9 at the Herrington Patriot Center. The program will welcome seven other universities for the volleyball tournament that will feature 16 matches over the two days. The Patriots will open the tournament at 3 p.m. on Friday against Birmingham Southern before taking on No. 20 Hendrix College at 7 p.m. to close out the first day of the event. UTT will then face Texas Lutheran at noon and Rhodes College at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9.

"We are looking forward to hosting a highly competitive tournament," Mashe said. "It's always nice to be in your own gym and in front of your home crowd."
