RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Tyler Patriots ended their best-ever season with a 3-0 loss to McMurry in the semifinal round of the American Southwest Conference
Volleyball Championship Tournament on Saturday.
Scores of the match were 25-13, 25-20 and 25-23.
Stephanie Henry knocked down 11 kills and hit .435 to
lead the War Hawks (28-5), who lost to Hardin-Simmons in the ASC Championship match later in the day.
Breanna Brummett knocked down a match-high 14 kills to
lead the Patriots, who concluded their most successful season in the
history of the program with a 21-12 record. It was the first season for new head coach Suzanne Truitt.
Madison Kosir recorded a double-double for the Patriots,
knocking down 10 kills and hand out 10 assists.
Ashten Waldrep also turned in a double-double performance
for UT Tyler, digging 11 McMurry attacks in addition to handing out a team-high
17 assists.
The War Hawks outhit UT Tyler .283 to .106, with McMurry
players hitting .515 in the first game.
The Patriots enjoyed their finest season to date,
registering their first-ever wins at the American Southwest Conference
tournament as well as setting a new school record for most wins in a season.
Saturday's contest was the final collegiate match for UT
Tyler's Danika Waldrep, who was named to the all-tournament team. One of the most prolific hitters in the program's
history, Waldrep led the Patriots with 444 kills during the 2011 season. She was also second in digs with 385 and third on the team with 32 blocks.
