TYLER -- The UT Tyler volleyball team lost in five sets Tuedsay night to the Texas-Dallas Comets in the Patriots' final home match of the season.
The loss gives the Patriots a final regular season record of 19-10 - their best-ever season, while finishing 11-6 in the American Southwest Conference. The Patriots will be the
No. 3 seed in the ASC East in the conference tournament in Richardson on
Nov. 3-5.
The Patriots took an early 2-0 set lead, before the Comets rallied and completed the comeback, winning 3-2.
In her final game in front of a home crowd, Danika Waldrep, recorded 20 kills and 14 digs, while Madison Kosir contributed a game high 23 kills for UT Tyler.
The Patriots held an early lead in the first set, 17-10, before the Comets
fought back to make it a two-point affair, but a strong finish gave UT Tyler a
25-19 win in the first set.
UT Tyler managed to take a 17-14 lead in set two before allowing the Comets
to tie the set at 17. UT Dallas later rattled off three-straight points and
took a 24-21 lead. However, the Patriots stormed back with stellar defense to win the set 26-24.
With the crowd behind them in the third set, the Patriots
held a 21-20 lead before UT Dallas bounced back to force a fourth set where they pulled ahead 13-9, before the Patriots fought back to make it 13-11. The Patriots ended up dropping five of the final seven points to lose the set, 25-20, and force a fifth and deciding set.
The Patriots fought hard in set five, but fell 15-13.
Emily Wood led the Patriots with 37
digs, as Kosir followed with 29 digs and 23 assists. Ashten Waldrep
led the team with 24 assists.
