SHERMAN,
Texas -- The UT Tyler volleyball team continued their hot start to the 2011 at the Austin
College Classic, going 3-1 this weekend in Sherman. Coach Suzanne Truitt
begins her tenure with a 7-2 record, marking the best-ever start for a UT Tyler volleyball team.
The
Patriots opened the Classic on Friday with Dallas Christian, promptly
sweeping them in three straight games, 25-3, 25-10, 25-16. Danika Waldrep
continued her strong play with 12 kills in the match and freshman Breanna
Brummett finished with a .833 hitting percentage. Freshman Madison Kosir
led the team with 20 assists.
In
the second match of the weekend against Southwestern Assemblies of God, the
Patriots once again won in three straight games, 25-21, 25-23-, 25-23.
Kosir and Ashten
Waldrep combined for 33 assists and Danika Waldrep added 12 kills with a .259
hitting percentage.
On
Saturday, UT Tyler needed four games to dispose of the University of Dallas,
winning 25-22, 22-25, 25-15, 25-20. While the Patriot attack was not as
consistent as the previous games, UT Tyler was able to rally behind the play of
Kosir who led the team with 12 kills and 16 assists.
The
only loss of the weekend came against a very talented Ouachita Baptist
team. The Patriots were swept 18-25, 22-15, 17-25. Freshman Stacy
Wilson led the team with a .359 hitting percentage and 10 kills.
UT
Tyler takes the court again on Tuesday against St. Thomas in
Houston. The Patriots' home opener is set for Friday at 7 p.m. against East Texas Baptist.
