The University of Texas at Tyler has been selected to host the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Region II-2A and Region III-1A volleyball tournaments on Nov. 14-15 at UT Tyler’s Herrington Patriot Center.
"The UIL has always had a great relationship with the people of Tyler, and we are thrilled to be moving our regional tournaments to UT Tyler,” said UIL athletics director Dr. Charles Breithaupt.
Semifinal games for the two regional tournaments will be played on Friday with game times set at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. for the 1A semifinals, and 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. for the 2A semifinals. The regional championship games are set for 2 p.m. for the 1A and 4 p.m. for the 2A on Saturday.
“The Herrington Patriot Center is a great new facility and it's exciting for our kids to have a chance to play in such a great venue,” added Breithaupt. “We're glad UT Tyler was able to help us give our students a chance to experience playing in a college atmosphere during their high school careers."
The Herrington Patriot Center is UT Tyler’s newest building and one of the finest athletics facilities in East Texas. At over 127,000 square feet, the $22 million center is the largest building on campus. Athletic events will be held in the 2,000-seat Maytee Fisch Convocation Center.
“We are excited about opening our facility to East Texas high school teams,” said UT Tyler athletics director Dr. Howard Patterson. “We feel like we have a tremendous athlete and fan-friendly facility that student-athletes will enjoy competing in and fans will enjoy watching their friends and family play in.”
“We’re honored that the UIL has chosen us to host these regional playoffs and we are confident that this is the first of many joint ventures between UT Tyler and the UIL,” he added.
