LONGVIEW – Brieanne Brown recorded 21 kills with a .441 attacking percentage to lead UT Tyler to its third five-set win of the season by opening the American Southwest Conference Crossover with a 25-17, 20-25, 25-27, 25-18, 15-7 victory over Howard Payne on Friday at the Solheim Arena.

Brown, who slammed down the final point of the match to end it, also had three blocks as the Patriots (11-2, 4-1 ASC) improved to 3-1 in five-set matches. A senior from Belton, Brown has 44 kills in the past three matches and now has 786 in her career which is the fifth most in program history and approaching Rachael Harvey who had 893 from 2012-15 for the fourth most at UTT. Brown's career-high in kills is 22 coming two years ago against Hendrix.

Brianna Bellehumeur leads UT Tyler with 117 kills this season after having 14 against HPU, while also adding 17 digs for her sixth double-double of her freshman season. Her 17 digs matched her 17 in Tuesday’s win over East Texas Baptist and only four shy of her season-best of 21 in the season-opener against Hardin-Simmons.

Reighanna Guzman and Madison Denning ran the offense from the setter position and help the Patriot hitters to a .213 attacking percentage. Guzman supplied 28 assists and had six digs, while Denning had 22 assists, 11 digs and also added two kills. Makenna Bartlett led the team with 19 digs at libero for the defense and Samantha Lee added four blocks along with nine kills for the offense. Haley Nemitz finished with nine kills and three blocks for the Patriots who owned an 11-8 block advantage over HPU which fell to 3-10 on the season and to 1-3 in ASC play.

UT Tyler will return to action with two matches on Saturday back in Longview at the ASC Crossover, starting at 12:30 p.m. against HSU and then closing out the event with a 5:30 p.m. contest against Concordia. The Patriots and HSU opened the season in a non-conference match at the UMHB tournament with UTT topping the Cowgirls, 25-22, 20-25, 25-19, 19-25, 15-11 in Belton.
