TYLER – The UT Tyler volleyball team will open American Southwest Conference play at 7 p.m. on Wednesday against LeTourneau at the Solheim Arena in Longview before travelling to play at Louisiana College and Belhaven this weekend.

The Patriots (7-1) have matched the best start to a season in program history and are coming off going 3-1 at their home tournament with wins over Birmingham-Southern, Hendrix and Rhodes College. The lone blemish on the record was a loss to Texas Lutheran in the third of four matches during the weekend. UT Tyler was picked to finish second in the ASC East Division and will open ASC action against the YellowJackets who are 2-6 on the season after dropping four matches at the Austin College Invitational last weekend.

Makenna Bartlett led UT Tyler with 77 digs (5.50 per set) during a 3-1 weekend at the Dakotas Patriot Classic where she also had 17 assists and two aces. Bartlett now has 124 digs through eight matches, including a career-best 37 digs in the five-set win over Hendrix last Friday. Brieanne Brown led the Patriots with 38 kills and had a .241 attacking percentage, while Blair Dressendorfer added 30 kills and Brianna Bellehumeur had 29 kills. Brown, who has 58 kills through eight matches, had a weekend-best 10 kills in the matches against Hendrix College and Texas Lutheran and nine in the matches against BSC and Rhodes. Brown would also add five blocks and 13 digs at the Dakotas Patriot Classic and now has 733 kills in her career.

Bellehumeur leads the team for the season with 72 kills through eight matches of her freshman season and is also a force defensively with 87 digs. Loren Guerra has 42 kills, Haley Nemitz 41 and Samantha Lee has contributed 38 kills and leads the team with 29 blocks. The offense is being directed by setters Reighanna Guzman and Madison Denning. Guzman had 77 assists last weekend and has 166 this season, while Denning has 104 assists to start her freshman season. Guzman was second on the team last weekend with 45 digs and has 68 this season.

UT Tyler will return to action after the match in Longview by playing at Louisiana College at 7 p.m. on Friday and then at Belhaven on Saturday. The Patriots and Wildcats will meet on the volleyball court for the first time as LC is in its inaugural season as a program.
