The University of Texas at Tyler softball team placed five players on the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-West Region team, the organization announced Tuesday.

Tracy Loftin, Ashley McElroy, Lindsey Peters, Sarah San and Carly Collins all earned nods from the selection committee.

“For a player to be named to the All-Region team is a prestigious honor,” said head coach Mike Reed. “We were very fortunate to have five players on the team this year. These girls and their teammates worked hard each and every day and we are grateful that coaches around the region have recognized this.

For the second year in a row, Loftin, a senior designated player from Whitehouse, Texas, was named to the region’s first team. Loftin hit .378 on the season and led UT Tyler with 12 homeruns. On the year she racked up 41 RBIs and slugged .775 percent.

McElroy, a senior from Elkhart, Texas, and Peters, a junior from Shreveport, La., picked-up second team honors for the Patriots. McElroy, the Patriots starting catcher, hit .375 overall and drive in 28 runs. At second base, Peters led the UT Tyler offense with a .441 batting average and a .868 slugging percentage. Peters scored 58 runs on the year and had 60 hits, 44 RBIs, 118 total bases and 21 doubles – leading the Patriots in each of those categories.

A senior first baseman, Zan was named to the third team after hitting .360 on the year. She had 30 RBIs and an almost perfect .988 fielding percentage. In her first year as a Patriot, Collins was also named to the third team All-Region after hitting .404 overall with 10 homeruns and 37 RBIs.

UT Tyler finished the year 30-10 overall and 14-10 in the American Southwest Conference’s East Division.
