Cronin Named NFCA, ASC Hitter of the Week

RICHARDSON – Days removed from being named the NFCA Leadoff Classic's Tournament MVP, freshman outfielder Joey Cronin earned her first weekly accolade from the league office, as she was tabbed the ASC East Hitter of the Week.

An even bigger honor came on Wednesday when the NFCA announced that Cronin was the Division III National Player of the Week.

Cronin, a native of Celina, Texas, extended a career-long hit streak to nine games with a spectacular weekend, going 13-for-17 (.765) from the plate with two doubles, two triples, a three-run home run and 11 runs driven in. She also scored 11 runs, posted a 1.294 slugging percentage and reached base 15-straight times to open the weekend en route to an .846 on-base percentage.

Cronin helped lead her team to a 5-1 week, including a third place finish in the gold bracket at the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic in Panama City Beach, Fla.

The freshman is the first Patriot to be named Hitter of the Week this season, while junior teammate Kimber Bossom is the lone Pitcher of the Week nod so far.

UT Tyler will be back in action on Thursday, welcoming Husson to town for a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
