TYLER-- The UT Tyler softball team presented a $1,000 donation to the American Cancer Society on Tuesday, joining with the National Fastpitch Coaches Association to StrikeOut Cancer.
Throughout the 2012 season, the Patriots sold StrikeOut Cancer t-shirts, with all the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
"All of the donations raised by the UT Tyler softball team will stay in Tyler to help cancer patients with support groups, research, and everyday living," said Linda Richie of the ACS.
Dr. Gary and Lisa Gross of the Blood and Cancer Center of East Texas helped make donations possible with their generous gift of $500.
"We see the needs of cancer patients everyday in Smith County", said Dr. Gross "We are very proud to live in the same community as UT Tyler and were excited to help out."
The NFCA helps StrikeOut Cancer with over $100,000 of donations every year.
