SEGUIN – No. 2 ranked Texas Lutheran topped No. 3 UT Tyler 7-2 in the first game of the Seguin Regional championship series on Saturday at Morck Softball Field. The Bulldogs (39-1, 19-0 SCAC) are now a game away from their first regional championship while the Patriots (39-2, 26-1 ASC) need to win two in a row to stave off elimination. The second game of the series is set to start at 5:15 tonight, while the if-necessary game will be at noon on Sunday.

The Bulldogs got all the offense they needed in the first inning, putting up a seven spot in the bottom of the first. Their first run came off a single by Kelly Jurden and Kyla Lockley advanced home on a throwing error by Hannah Moore. Haley Pedilla followed it up with an RBI single of her own to make it 2-0. The big play of the inning came on a bases-clearing double by Skylar Ouellette that scored three runs.

The Patriots struggled defensively uncharacteristically throughout the game with a three errors on the afternoon. Colleen Bentke (22-2) took her second loss of the season, allowing five runs on three hits.

Ashley Perez for UT Tyler had their only offense, hitting a two-run homer to left field in the fifth. She finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs in the game. UT Tyler had a 32-game winning streak end with the loss.
