TYLER – After one day of rest following an American Southwest Conference sweep of Sul Ross, the No. 3-ranked UT Tyler softball team returns to action by hosting Concordia in a three-game ASC series on Tuesday and Wednesday at Suddenlink Field.

The Patriots (11-1, 8-1 ASC) are on a four-game winning streak after taking three from the Lobos last weekend and topping Centenary last Tuesday in a non-conference game. UT Tyler is 4-0 on its home field and is playing the Tornados (6-4, 5-1 ASC) this week after the series was rescheduled after a rainout last month. CTX did not play last weekend after taking two of three against McMurry two weeks ago in Austin.

The UT Tyler-Concordia series begins with a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday before a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday.

UT Tyler, which owns 101-17 run advantage over all of its opponents through 12 games, enters this week with a .404 team batting average and a 1.36 pitching staff earned run average.

Nicole Garcia leads the Patriots with a .585 batting average and 24 hits, while Ashley Perez has four home runs and 24 RBIs through 12 games. A junior from Sugar Land, Garcia is coming off a week where she hit .615 with eight hits and seven runs scored. Perez had seven RBIs last week, while Kailey Henderson and Victoria Gonzales had five each. Perez is hitting .500 on the season, while senior first baseman Andrea Gonzales is hitting .487 with seven RBIs. Victoria Gonzales is at .429 and second on the team with 16 RBIs and Hannah Moore has added six RBIs.

UT Tyler junior Colleen Bentke (6-1) went 3-0 last week with one win over Centenary and two against the Lobos. Bentke is a left-hander who pitched at Blinn College last season and has an impressive 0.52 ERA and 38 strikeouts though seven starts and 40 2/3 innings. Sophomore right-hander Whitney Romero (5-0) has 27 strikeouts and a 2.41 ERA, while Miranda Leal has made five appearances and has seven strikeouts through 9 1/3 innings.

The Patriots will continue their Spring Break week by playing Belhaven (11-2, 6-0 ASC) this weekend in Jackson, Mississippi. UTT and the Blazers will open the series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday before a 1 p.m. series finale on Saturday.
